‘Down By The River’ Festival today

By the time you read this, you have missed putting your kayak or canoe in the river for the race. Or maybe you are racing at this time.

The first place will receive $100, 2nd $50 and 3rd $35. It started at 7 a.m. at Skull Shoals — Pacolet River and will end at the dam in Lockhart.

This is kicking off our “Down By The River” Festival, which starts at 10 a.m. and continues until 6 p.m. There will be a Cornhole Tournament at $15 a team. Food vendors, arts and crafts, music (bring a chair), bouncy house, and children’s Halloween costume contest. It should be a fun day.

There’s T-Shirt sale with the festival and Lockhart Pride on it, Pat Fowler printed them and they are really nice. The cost is $10 for S, M, L, and XL. 2X and larger are $12.

Then at 5:30 p.m., the Lockhart Freewill Church will be having a festival, including a hay ride, food and games for the kids. I believe Wesley Chapel will be having a Trunk or Treat, also.

Sewage Project

Tri-County won the bid for the sewage project, on the hill. The bid was $576,617. Upon State approval, this project should be started before the holidays.

No Show

We had a clean up day, Oct. 22, and no one showed up. So please don’t complain if you see any mess around Lockhart, because if you had any pride in our Town you would have come. Of course I didn’t show up either, I worked at the shop that day.

In The Hospital

When I got off work I went to Union Medical Center and fixed Carolyn Edwards hair to brighten her day up a little. She’s in room 328 if you want to send her a card.

Assisted Living

I forgot Dolly Broome’s new address at the shop, but I’ll add it next week. She’s in assisted living at the West Side of Spartanburg. Windsor Building or something like that. She’s joining in all the activities.

Feeling Rough

I went over to Tommy and Nancy Keenan’s house Wednesday, after my business in Chester, They live on the way home, with a little cut off. Nancy had triple by pass surgery, and really feels rough. So I cut her hair, trying to perk her up a little. She felt so bad, I don’t think she cared what I did.

Wonderful Time

I really had a good time at work today, which is really Thursday, I started at 8:30 a.m. and did not finish until 9:30 p.m., but the last group I cut keep you laughing. Of course it was the Parris’s. We put colored clips in the boys hair and took pictures. They tease with each other and have such a wonderful time, I think no matter where they are. I told Brad I was going home and write about them.

At The Movies

We went to the movies and saw “Girl On A Train.” Not as good as it was hyped up to be. It was okay, and anyone interested I won’t ruin it for you. It’s one of those “Who Done it Movies.” One lady in the movie told us it stuck to the book. Glad I didn’t buy it. Everyone I talked to went to see Madea’s Halloween. I bet they enjoyed it, but ours was free, so why not!!

Remember In Prayer

Please pray for Jeryld Smallwood, he’s fighting for his life. My understanding, is he had two blood clots in the back of his neck, and last week one went to his brain. I sure hope he pulls through.

Hill Project

I haven’t finished with my hill project. Well not a project, just a mess of twigs and weeds and stumps.

I noticed that Barry burned his mess, so he’ll end up with beautiful grass. I’m afraid if I start a controlled burn, it will get out of control. So I’ll keep working by hand.

And you can’t even find good help, or bad. Chuck says he’s not a fool and will not get on my hill. Hey, it might get me in shape, if I do all this hard work, I sure do need it. Right now I need just a free day, to do the work.

My encouraging phone calls came from Gene Smith for telling me he’s glad I started writing, since he came in the shop wondering why I wasn’t writing, a while back. And my niece Terry called to tell me she was glad that she could keep up with me in my letters. Thank you both.

It’s really late and I have to be at work at 7:30 in the morning, maybe I should have just taken a sleeping bag over there. No, if I did that I wouldn’t be boring you now. But I must say good night. Call at 864-545-6652.
