Presents needed for Hospice box

By: By Connie Porter - Contributing columnist

Valentine’s is just around the corner, and we’re not doing so well on getting presents for the Hospice box, but next Wednesday I’ll take what few gifts we have over to Medihome to add to what they may have for their seniors. I have a few crossword and word search books and two bottles of lotion.

Anyway, I don’t want to come off as a beggar, so I say thank you to all of you who help me every year for Christmas, and this is our first year for Valentine’s, I do have a good start on throws for Christmas, though. I got a thank you card from Jennie for our help, this is to all of you.

Lockhart Cafe

Bernice said they had a wonderful turnout last Sunday, for dinner, at the Lockhart Cafe. This Sunday’s menu: Meat Loaf, Baked Ham and Fried Chicken. Vegetables are: Dressing and giblet gravy, macaroni and cheese, rice and gravy, cream potatoes and gravy, steamed cabbage, squash casserole, speckled butter beans, green beans, potato salad and cole slaw. Dessert is homemade peach cobbler, homemade banana pudding, and assorted pie slices, also there are cornbread muffin and dinner roll. All this is just $8.25 plus tax. You can’t beat the price for all the food you get,one meat and three vegetables, bread, dessert and drink. The time is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

After 3 p.m. this Sunday, you can order wings and pizza to enjoy while you watch the Big Game. This is also at the Lockhart Cafe.

An Adventure In Dining

Speaking of eating. Saturday night Chuck and I went to a fish camp. The waitress asked if we were ready to order, I asked Chuck and he said he would have the same as me. I pointed to the item on the menu and said we wanted two orders of broiled Alaskan White, with baked sweet potato, and if they didn’t have that we wanted sweet potato fries. You know it always takes longer when you order broiled.

When she came out she put the plate in front of me and said she hoped I enjoyed. I asked her where Chuck’s food was. “Oh, I didn’t know he wanted anything”, she said. (Now this is our usual hangout for food). Chuck said, “Well did you think I was just going to sit here and watch her eat?”

So I told her that I didn’t want to eat alone, so she said she’d put it under the warming lights. Now can you imagine how that is going to taste in another half hour? So I spoke to the owner and hostess, who were standing at checkout. He said no way was I going to eat old food, it would be cooked fresh. Anyway, he came out with my old plate and said he was glad I ordered something good, cause he was going to eat it. We didn’t act snappy or mean, and later enjoyed our meal.

Rain, Rain, Stay Away

I heard that Charlotte was expecting sleet and snow tomorrow, and I hope if they get it they don’t pass leftovers to us. This rain we had Wednesday was horrible. It started out rather a pleasant day. I went to the town hall, and the bottom fell out, and the wind blew the rain sideways. It rained so hard, I had to sit it out. Of course the umbrella was in the car. I looked out the window and the stop sign was swaying.

Thank You

Thank you to all my customers, you bring some joy into my life, my days are never dull when you come in.

Trying To Tell Him Something?

Jack was depressed when he got back from the doctor’s office.

“What’s the matter?” his wife asked.

“The doctor says I have to take one of these white pills every day for the rest of my life.”

“And what’s so bad about that?”

“He only gave me seven!”

Question: When does Valentine’s Day come after Easter? Answer: in the dictionary.

Valentine’s Day

I don’t know if I ever told you this story about my husband, who didn’t have a romantic thought in his head, when it came to Valentine’s.

Being a Shriner, he was off to one of his pleasure meetings, came in really late, and I was sleeping. He woke me up and gave me this big heart box of candy. Well I was so happy that he thought of me. Then he said , well it was the last one left so I bought it. (The Shriners were selling them). Wow!! This is the man who would buy tires for the car for my birthday.

So guys do it right for your ladies on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14. And if you don’t, just say the words right.

Better news next week. So good night and call at 864-545-6652.
