UNION COUNTY — Two women were arrested and charged this week in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on June 25.

Sydnei Addaire McBride, 20, 213 Wilbur Street, Union, and Kimberly Ladawn Fincher, 41, 211 Cambridge Drive #3D, Union, are each charged by the Union Public Safety Department with being an accessory after the fact to attempted murder.

The warrant for McBride’s arrest states that on Monday, June 25, she “did assist her boyfriend, Gerald Dejuan Hughes Jr., in fleeing” from a residence on Thomas Street. It states that McBride “was at the scene with her boyfriend after he shot” a man at the Thomas Street residence “and failed to notify emergencies services for him.” It further states that McBride “provided the transportation” to make Hughes’ flight from the scene successful.

The warrant for Fincher’s arrest states that on June 25 she “did assist her son, Gerald Dejuan Hughes Jr.,” in fleeing the scene at Thomas Street. It further states that Fincher “was present and did leave the scene with her son after he shot” a man at the Thomas Street residence “and failed to notify emergencies services for him.” It also states that the victim in the shooting was Fincher’s boyfriend.

McBride and Fincher were both arrested on the morning of Friday, July 13. McBride and Fincher have since been released on bond.

Hughes, 20, 213 Wilbur Street, Union, is charged by the Union Public Safety Department with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The charges stem from a shooting incident that occurred shortly before 1 a.m. June 25 the residence on Thomas Street. The incident report states that when the officer dispatched to the scene arrived he found a black male laying in the street in front of the residence. It states that another officer dispatched to the scene asked the victim if he knew who had shot him and the victim said he did not.

The first officer spoke with a witness who the report states was standing by when the officers arrived. The report states the witness said there had been an argument between the victim and an unknown black male. It states the witness said he thought the argument was over then the suspect brandished a small handgun and then fired some shots from it. The witness said he ran inside the residence because he is afraid of guns.

The report states the witness said the suspect was wearing shorts with no shirt and left the scene in a black Toyota.

An investigator then spoke with the witness while the first officer took photos of the incident scene and attached them to the incident report.

The report describes the victim’s wound as visible but apparently minor.

Union Public Safety Director Sam White said Hughes was taken into custody on the morning of Wednesday, June 27 at a residence on Cambridge Street. White said that as of the morning of Friday, June 29, the weapon used in the shooting had not been recovered. He said that after being arrested Hughes declined to speak with officers about the incident.

In addition to the charges filed against him in connection with the June 25 shooting incident, Hughes was also arrested on a city bench warrant.

As of Wednesday, Hughes was still in jail.

White said Wednesday that the gun used in the incident has still not been found and that his department is still looking for it to get it off the street. He asked that anyone with any information about the whereabouts of the gun or any other information related to the case to please call the Union Public Safety Department at 864-429-1713.
