Man shot during argument

UNION — The Union Public Safety Department is investigating a shooting incident that left a man lying wounded in the street Monday afternoon.

The incident report states that an officer was dispatched just before 1 p.m. Monday to a residence on Thomas Street in reference to a shooting. The report states dispatch informed the officer that one person had been shot. It states that upon arrival the officer found a black male laying in the street in front of the residence.

A second officer dispatched to the scene asked the victim if he knew who had shot him and the report states the victim said he did not.

The first officer spoke with a witness who the report states was standing by when the officers arrived. The report states the witness said there had been an argument between the victim and an unknown black male. It states the witness said he thought the argument was over then the suspect brandished a small handgun and then fired some shots from it. The witness said he ran inside the residence because he is frightened of guns.

The report states the witness said the suspect was wearing shorts with no shirt and left the scene in a black Toyota.

An investigator then spoke with the witness while the first officer took photos of the incident scene and attached them to the incident report.

The report describes the victim’s wound as visible but apparently minor.

The incident is still under investigation.
