UNION COUNTY — The Union County Republican Party will host a debate for the three candidates seeking the SC House of Representatives District 42 seat.
In a statement released this afternoon, Union County Republican Party Chairman Tommy Sinclair announced that the GOP will host a debate for the three District 42 candidates on Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m. in the USC Union Auditorium.
The following candidates are running for the District 42 seat:
• Doug Gilliam
• Phillip Russell
• Brooks Carwisle
All three are running as Republicans.
The District 42 seat is currently held by Rep. Mike Anthony, a Democrat, who announced in February that he would not seek a ninth term in office.
Anthony’s successor will be one of the Republican candidates as no Democrats have filed to run for the District 42 seat.
District 42 is composed of all of Union County and part of Laurens County. Gilliam, Russell, and Carwisle are all residents of Union County.
The Republican and Democratic parties will hold their party primaries on Tuesday, June 12 to nominate candidates for the partisan races that will be on the ballot in the Tuesday, Nov. 6 General Election.
