UNION — Two motorists were sent to the hospital after their vehicles collided early Wednesday morning.
L/Cpl Gary Miller of the SC Highway Patrol said that the collision occurred approximately 6:35 a.m. on the Cross Keys Highway near Stone Ridge Road 1.3 miles south of Union.
Miller said the accident occurred when a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling south attempted to pass another vehicle and collided with a northbound 1998 Subaru station wagon.
Miller identified the driver of the pickup truck as Joshua Paul Johnson of Union. He said that while Johnson was injured he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision and was not ejected from his vehicle or entrapped.
Miller identified the driver of the station wagon as Daniel Allen Mullarkey of Greenville. He said that Mullarkey was also wearing a seat belt, but was not only injured but had was entrapped in his vehicle and had be extracted by mechanical means.
Miller said that both Johnson and Mullarkey were transported by the Union County EMS to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Miller said that the accident is under investigation and that no charges have been filed.
In addition to the South Carolina Highway Patrol and Union County EMS, the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Jonesville 507 Rescue, and the Southside Fire Department were also called to the scene. Southside Fire Department Public Information Officer Roger Bailey said that his department was called to the scene shortly after 6:30 a.m. and remained on the scene until shortly before 9 a.m.
