Habitual offender, drug charges

UNION COUNTY — Two men ended up under arrest at the end of last week, one of them for allegedly being a habitual offender by repeatedly driving with a suspended license, and the other for allegedly having methamphetamine in his possession.

DeBryan Michael Norman, 29, 108 Brockman Heights, Union, is charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with driving under suspension third offense and habitual offender.

Harold Shannon Lee Jr., 22, 152 Peach Shed Road, Jonesville, is charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with possession of methamphetamine.

The incident report states that on Friday, Aug. 18, deputies were dispatched to a business on Peach Orchard Road in the Union area in reference to suspicious activity. The report state the complainant said that a white male got out of a vehicle that was driven by a black male. It states that when the complainant made contact with the black male that was sitting in the parking lot, the black male stated that he was waiting on a friend to come meet him there. The complainant then informed the male that he could not be sitting in the parking lot of the business, so the male moved the car down to another location on Peach Orchard Road.

When deputies walked out of the business, the report states the white male walked past them and the witness who identified him as the guy who had got out of the car. The report states deputies then made contact with the two males and got their South Carolina identifications and ran them through E-911 warrants. It states the males were identified as Norman and Lee.

As deputies were checking their identification, the report states Norman and Lee were trying to separate themselves from the deputies. The report states that when deputies began questioning them, Lee put his hand into his left pocket and began to show signs of extreme nervousness. It states deputies then had Lee turn around and face the patrol car and started checking him for any weapons.

As deputies were patting Lee down, the report states they felt a round object in Lee’s front pocket. The report states Lee said it was a syringe and that he stated he was a diabetic. It states deputies then detained Lee in handcuffs so they could get the syringe out of his pocket. When deputies pulled a black bag out of Lee’s pocket and asked what all was in it, the report states he said there was a small amount of methamphetamine in the bag with the syringe.

The report states deputies then retrieved the white powder and did a field test on it and it was positive for methamphetamine. It states that at that time Lee was placed under arrest for possession of methamphetamine.

As for Norman, the report states he said Lee asked him for a ride to an address on Peach Orchard Road so his girlfriend drove them to Union County School, then decided to go back home and eat her food which was in the microwave. The report states Norman said he dropped her off at home and drove Lee to the home on Peach Orchard Road.

The report states Norman driver’s license was suspended and that after looking at his driving record it was determined that this was the third time he had been caught for driving under suspension. It states Norman was taken to the jail for driving under suspension third offense and habitual offender.
