Man arrested on federal charges

JONESVILLE — A resident of Eisontown Road in the Jonesville Community is facing federal drug and weapon charges for allegedly taking part in a conspiracy to transport cocaine from Kentucky to Union County.

In a statement released this (Wednesday) afternoon, Union County Sheriff David Taylor announced the arrest of Antoine Lamarcus Davis.

Taylor stated that Davis, 33, 610 Eisontown Road, Jonesville, was arrested Saturday, July 8, on a federal arrest warrant. He stated the arrest grew out of a drug conspiracy case in which Davis is accused of transporting drugs from Pikeville, Kentucky, into Union County.

Davis is charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance (cocaine) and possession of a firearm and affecting interstate commerce.

If found guilty on these charges, Taylor stated that Davis could receive up to 50 years in federal prison.

Following his arrest, Davis was transported to the Union County Jail where he remained until Monday, July 10 when Taylor stated he was transferred to the custody of federal agents. He stated that Davis is currently being held in federal custody in Anderson.

Taylor praised his deputies and the Assistant United States Attorney for their work on the case and also praised the Union Public Safety Department for its assistance in apprehending Davis. He added that the investigation is continuing and that more arrests are expected.
