UNION COUNTY — Two men are facing charges in connection with multiple thefts and attempted thefts of ATVs in the Lockhart area.
In a statement released this morning, Union County Sheriff David Taylor said that on Thursday, March 16 deputies were dispatched to the Lockhart Community in response to several reports of attempted ATV thefts.
Taylor said that this lead to a joint investigation by his office and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. As a result of that investigation, Taylor said the following suspects have been taken into custody:
— Troy Tillman Gilreath, 21, 1513 Wilkinsville Highway, Gaffney.
— David Matthew Upchurch, 26, 837 McKowns Mountain Road, Gaffney.
Taylor said that arrest warrants for Grand Larceny have been issued for both Gilreath and Upchurch. He said that Gilreath is currently being held in the Union County Jail while Upchurch is in the Cherokee County Jail. Taylor said Upchurch will remain in custody in Cherokee County until the charges against him there have been satisfied. He said Upchurch will then be transported to Union County to face the charges against him here.
Taylor said the case in still under investigation and that more charges and more arrests are to follow.
