UNION COUNTY — Coming off last week’s win over Aiken in the first round of playoffs, the Union County Yellow Jackets look to keep their momentum going as they face Ridge View on Friday.
Last Friday, the Yellow Jackets defeated the Aiken Green Hornets in a final score of 43-20 to advance to the second round of the 4A playoffs.
This week, Union County will host the Ridge View Blazers, looking to settle the score after a last-minute heartbreaking loss to Ridge View during the regular season. When the two teams matched up in September, the Yellow Jackets led the Blazers during the bulk of the game. During the fourth quarter, Ridge View recovered a fumble by Union County in the end zone to tie the game, and the Blazers were able to pull off a field goal in the final minutes of the game, defeating Union County by three points.
After that regular-season game, Union County Head Coach Bradley Adams said he believed his team should have been victorious, and that he and his coaching staff would work to make players better understand what is required to be disciplined and successful.
Since that game, Adams has said that he feels the team has really come together as one, bring the Yellow Jackets’ motto for the season — “One blood” — to life.
Union County’s overall record thus far is 9-4, and Ridge View’s record is 9-2. In region competition, however, Union County went 4-0, and Ridge View was 3-2 in their region.
Friday night’s kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The winner of Friday’s game will advance to the next round of playoffs to face the winner of Friday’s game between South Aiken and York.
