God & Country Rally

A God & Country Rally will be held Sunday, Oct. 16, from 4-7 p.m. at the West Springs Community Center.*

For the children there will be a bounce house, face painting, snow cones, and popcorn.

There will be food including hot dogs right off the grill as well as slaw, baked beans, chips, dessert, and drink. Plates are $5 for adults and $3 for children.

There will be live music by The Disciple 5 of Moore and Living Harvest of Greer.

This community event is a time to worship, eat, and fellowship together. Please bring your lawn chairs.

*In the event of rain, the rally will be held at West Springs Baptist Church.

Street Fair

Medi-Home Hospice will hold a Street Fair on Nov. 4 from 3-7 p.m. in the parking lot at 702 S. Duncan Bypass, Union.

The Street Fair is free and the public is invited to attend.

October At The Arts Council

• Dwight Rose Exhibit — We invite you to visit the gallery and spend some time in the world of Dwight Rose. Mr. Rose is our 2016 Juror and has displayed his watercolor artwork for all of Union County to enjoy. With over 30 pieces to view , his talent will amaze you.

• Mini Monet — Our Saturday children’s classes are back! Join us on October 15 for a morning of pumpkins! We will supply everything you need to create your masterpiece, you just need to bring your CREATIVITY!

American Legion

Union American Legion Post 22 will be having its monthly meeting on Monday, Oct. 10.

The meeting will be held in its regular location, the Legion Hut at 120 Scenic Drive in Veterans Memorial Park in Union.

A meal will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the business meeting at 7 p.m.

Post 22 meets on the second Monday evening of the month and prospective members are always welcome to attend.

Fall Festival

As part of their on-going efforts to support the Union County Carnegie Library and raise money to replace the roof on Friends on Main, the Friends will sponsor a Fall Festival at the library from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, October 14.

To include the community-at-large in this event, the Friends need sponsors willing to create scarecrows which will be judged by those attending the festival. Grand Prize will be $75! Sponsorship entry forms and directions are available at the library; the deadline to sponsor is October 10.

There will be both free and inexpensive games, activities, and food for a family-centered experience. Some of the games will be ring toss, horse shoes, yard darts, pumpkin bowling, tic tac toe, and fishing; activities will include corn hole, cupcake walk, basketball, solo cup water race, pumpkin painting, and pool of corn. A deal on tickets will be available: buy ten for $5 and receive a free balloon. Come out and join the fun!

2016 Hog Jog 5K

The 2016 Hog Jog 5K will be held Oct. 15 at 8 a.m. at Midway BBQ, 811 Main St., Buffalo,

Pre-Race Day Registration for the Hog Jog is at the Union County YMCA, 106 Lakeside Drive, Union.

Race Day Registration will be at Midway BBQ beginning at 6:30 a.m.

The registration fee is $20 and includes a visor and breakfast. Breakfast will be served to participants upon completion of the run.

Breakfast for non-participants is $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.

Hog Jog participants will run along a course that begins at Midway BBQ, goes along Buffalo Highway, turns right on to Times Boulevard, then right on to Rice Avenue, makes a loop through the Timken Complex parking area, continues on Rice Avenue, right on Lukesville Road, then right on Duncan Avenue to the finish.

Proceeds from the Hog Jog will go to support the Union County YMCA’s Annual Campaign.

2o16 Union County Fair Flower Show

“Moments to Remember,” the 2016 Union County Fair Flower Show, will be presented by the Good Neighbors Garden Club and the Union County Master Gardeners Association.

For a chance to win blue ribbons and a grand prize, enter your best horticultural specimens or reserve a slot and create a floral design.

Look for further details in the 2016 Union County Fair Book available at the Clemson County Extension Office. Beat the crowd and pick up a fair book and your entry tags to complete before registration.

2016 4-H Market Steer Sale

The Union County Livestock Association and Union County 4-H will hold the 2016 4-H Market Steer Sale at 6 p.m. Oct. 18, during the Union County Agricultural Fair.

Individuals and businesses are encouraged to come out and take part in the sale, and to support the 4-H youth who are participating in the South Carolina Market Steer Project.

Benefits of supporting the SC Market Steer Project Sale include all natural product guaranteed steroid free; the ability to customize cuts of beef with a local processor; option of purchasing whole, sides or quarters of beef; supporting the education of youth through the project and through proceeds going to individual youth members who have raised and shown their steer throughout the year.

The Union County Young Republicans and The Union County Democratic Party have partnered to sponsor a series of debates featuring candidates for local offices in Union. The goal of these debates is to provide a forum for candidates to speak on the issues important to the people of Union, in a fair an impartial environment.

The dates and times for the debates are as follows:

• October 27, 2016, 7 p.m. — House District 42

All debates will be held in the auditorium at USC Union. There will be no cost for those wishing to attend the debates, but seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Questions may be submitted in advanced by emailing them to unionscdebate@gmail.com. There will also be an opportunity to submit questions in writing before the debates begin. Submitting a question does not guarantee that it will be used in the debate. The debate committee will review all submitted questions and determine if they shall be used.

The Bi-Partisan debate committee is made up of three representatives of the Union County Young Republicans, and three representatives of the Union County Democratic Party.

Bereavement Program

Medi Home Hospice is sponsoring a Bereavement Program. Anyone who has lost a loved one and needs guidance with their loss is invited to attend.

The Bereavement Program will be held at the Medi Home Hospice office located at 720 Duncan Bypass, Suite C, Union, on the top floor of Austin Rehab.

Meetings will be every first Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
