UNION — After winning their region opener last week, the Union County Yellow Jackets will have this week off before they travel to Blue Ridge next week.
Union County defeated the Eastside Eagles in a final score of 34-15 on Friday at Union County Stadium. The game was the Region II-4A opener for both teams. Union County’s Coach Bradley Adams said the team has had a rough road and tough schedule so far in the season, but region play is where it starts. Friday’s game took the Yellow Jackets to a 3-4 record for the season, 1-0 in region play.
Some of Friday’s game highlights included De’Shaun Holmes running for 13 yards and scoring on a two-yard run for the touchdown; Ty Savage getting two interceptions; Markevious Glenn scoring with 29-yard and three-yard runs; Quadric Smith returning a kickoff for 38 yards; and QB Brandon Thompson connecting with Ty Washington for a 25-yard touchdown pass.
Adams said he thought his team’s defense played well early on, keeping the Yellow Jackets in the game despite some offensive mistakes.
Union County is off this week before they travel to Blue Ridge to take on the Fighting Tigers on Oct. 13. Blue Ridge is currently 1-6 on the season, and they will host Travelers Rest this week for their region opener.
