UNION COUNTY — An upcoming event will give local residents an opportunity to learn about assistance available to them which they may not realize exists.

Union County Workforce Development will host an Agency Spotlight from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at SC Works-Union, located at 103 West Main Street, Union.

The theme of the Agency Spotlight is “United We Serve,” and it will showcase various agencies and the services they provide to local residents.

“This will be a great opportunity for the community to come in, stop by various tables and inquire about services available to them,” said Katherine Pendergrass, Director of Union County Workforce Development. “The agencies on display are members of our Union Partners Group, which meets on a regular monthly basis.”

Pendergrass said one of the group’s meetings included a discussion about how little most people know about the various services available in Union County.

“That discussion led to the idea of having us together — under one roof — after the regular 5 p.m. business hour to allow the community to stop by, ask questions, gain knowledge and/or sign up for services as applicable either for themselves, a family member or friend.”

Pendergrass said people often need assistance and do not know where to turn, and the June 21 event will allow people to pick up printed information as well as have conversations with representatives and others.

The event will also include door prizes and giveaways.

Participating agencies will include the following: AARP, South Carolina Commission for the Blind, South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (SCDEW), South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS), South Carolina JUMMP, South Carolina Legal Services, SC Works, Spartanburg Community College-Union Campus, Union Area Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Union County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Union County Workforce Development, United Way of Union County, Urban League of the Upstate and Vocational Rehabilitation.
