Legion Post 22 Swearing In New Officers

Union American Legion Post 22 will be having its monthly meeting on Monday, June 13. The meeting will be held in its regular location, the Legion Hut at 120 Scenic Drive in Veterans Memorial Park in Union.

A meal will be served at 6 p.m., followed by guest speaker Bob Scherer, new Commander of the American Legion Department of South Carolina, at 6:30 p.m.

The business meeting will start at 7 p.m., and will include Russ Cantrell, South Carolina American Legion District 10 Commander, swearing in the newly elected Post 22 Officers.

Post 22 meets on the second Monday evening of every month except July, when there is no meeting. Prospective members are always welcome to attend any meeting.

UCHS Hall Of Fame Nominations Sought

The Hall of Fame Committee is seeking nominations of individuals to be considered for the UCHS Hall of Fame.

If you would like to nominate an individual from any of the county’s former high schools, please do so by contacting Mike McGee by phone at 864-429-1765, Extension 16, or emaill You should provide the name and mailing address of the nominee.

The deadline for nominations to be considered this year is Aug. 26.

USC Union Activity Fun Camp

USC Union will hold its annual Activity Fun Camp from June 13-17.

The camp, which will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day, will provide children ages 7-11 years of age the opportunity to do the following:

• Learn science and lab techniques.

• Learn CSI techniques such as fingerprinting, foot print casting, evidence collection, DNA extraction.

• Games and team activities daily

The camp cost $80 per child with lunch, snacks, activity costs, and drinks all included.

Jonesville Town Festival

The Jonesville Town Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 from noon-9 p.m. We are looking for vendors, musical groups, dance groups and singers. Free Summer Lunch And Activities Program

The Town of Carlisle will be offering a Summer Lunch & Activities Program including a field trip and swimming for children ages 18 and under in June and July.

The program will be held at the Carlisle Town Hall from June 8-July 28, Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Post 22 To Improve 2016 Baseball Team

Union American Legion Post 22 is currently working on much-needed improvements for their 2016 baseball team. Changes will be made from top to bottom, and will go back to the 1925 roots of American Legion Baseball, teaching “young Americans the importance of sportsmanship, good health, and active citizenship.” This quote is from the historical article at

If you love baseball and working with teenagers, or just like helping out in your community, and are able to contribute in any way at all, please consider volunteering. There are many ways to contribute your time, from being one of the coaches for the regular or junior teams, to just helping out for a few hours at a time. Bereavement Program

Medi Home Hospice is sponsoring a Bereavement Program. Anyone who has lost a loved one and needs guidance with their loss is invited to attend.

The Bereavement Program will be held at the Medi Home Hospice office located at 720 Duncan Bypass, Suite C, Union, on the top floor of Austin Rehab.

Meetings will be every first Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
