BUFFALO — Things are busy these days at Southern Pearls and Charm and they’ll be even busier Friday when US Fifth District Rep. Mick Mulvaney visits the boutique located at 839A Main Street, Buffalo.
Southern Pearls and Charm owner Brandy Childers said Tuesday that Mulvaney will be at the store at 1:30 p.m. Friday to visit and meet with, talk to, and answer questions of customers and the general public. Childers said that light refreshments will be served. She said the event is free and open to the public.
Mulvaney’s visit to Southern Pearls and Charm will be one of two stops he makes in Union County on Friday, the other being a “Conservative Re-Union” hosted by the Union County Young Republicans at the Shrine Club, 2731 Lockhart Highway, Union. Tickets for the event are $15 and purchasers will be able to enjoy barbecue, baked beans, slaw, and dessert as well as a chance to speak to Mulvaney and other federal, state, and local officials. For tickets, contact Union County Repubilcans Facebook page, Brett Shugart at 864-426-2417, Tiffany Littlejohn at 864-426-6511 or go by Sinclair Automotive at 1027 Duncan Bypass, Union.
Hosting Mulvaney’s visit to Buffalo will be just the latest achievement for Southern Pearls and Charm which first opened its doors on Jan. 9. Southern Pearls and Charm is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream of Childers who said she was inspired to finally go and make that dream come true by her daughter, Emma Grace. She said she did so, however, only after praying about it first.
“It was a dream of mine since I was a little girl, and since having my own little girl who’s also a really girly girl, it was something we decided to do after a lot of prayer,” Childers said.
Her faith is also what inspired Childers to use the following passage of scripture as the motto of her boutique:
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
— Proverbs 31:30
“True beauty is not what we wear,” Childers said. “True beauty comes from the Lord.”
Childers described Southern Pearls and Charm as “a ladies’ and children’s boutique” which offers customers “fashionable-looking, unique-looking, high-end clothing that we’ve made affordable for Union.”
The ladies’ clothing at Southern Pearls and Charm runs from size 1-2 to 3x while the children’s clothing runs from 2T to a girl’s 12-14. The boutique also carries ladies’ shoes and jewelry and Childers said that she will soon be adding a new line of jewelry to the lines already being offered. Childers said that she is constantly adding items to the boutique’s inventory to increase its appeal to more and more customers.
“I have new arrivals each week,” Childers said. “I post all items on Instagram and Facebook. Our newest items are dresses and tops by Buckhead Betties.”
She added that, “no matter what size you are, you can find something cute at Southern Pearls and Charm.”
Childers said the boutique also carries pocketbooks, beach bags, visors, beach hats, and hair bows. She said the boutique also sells door hangers and wall hangers which customers can have personalized.
Southern Pearls and Charm is open Tuesday-Friday from 11 a.m.-6:15 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
In addition to being a boutique, Southern Pearls and Charm is also a school as Childers home-schools her daughter there between waiting on customers, In fact, Emma Grace helps out her mother by bagging up items for customers when they make a purchase at the checkout counter.
While the boutique currently caters to ladies and children, Childers said she is in the process of getting ready to begin offering gentlemen’s clothing. She said this will be in keeping with the name of the boutique which she said reflects some great truths about southern women and southern men.
“I’ve always loved my grandmother’s pearls,” Childers said about selecting the pearls part of the name of the boutique. “I think it’s a southern thing, southern girls wear pearls with anything.
“I added the charm when I decided to add men’s clothes,” she said. “The girls can wear pearls and the men can be charming.”
