‘Bags of Love’ donations needed

UNION COUNTY — The United Way will distribute bags of love this Valentine’s Day.

The United Way of the Piedmont’s Union County office is asking the community to get involved and donate “Bags of Love” to be distributed to homebound senior citizens in Union County for Valentine’s Day.

There are thousands of homebound seniors in Union County living alone and dependent on community agencies for food, socialization and basic human contact. The United Way is asking members of the community to “live united” and remember those homebound seniors this Valentine’s Day by assembling a Bag of Love, which will be delivered to a homebound senior in Union County on Valentine’s Day.

To donate, pick up a regular-sized gift bag, and fill it with some of the following suggested items:

• A Valentine’s Day card

• Stretch gloves

• Candy (including sugar free)

• 2016 calendar

• Soap

• Devotional books

• Toothbrush and toothpaste

• Eye drops

• Mouthwash

• Tissue

• Band-aids

• Cough drops

• Antiseptic cream

• Books or magazines

• Cotton balls

• Peroxide

• Wash cloths

• Brush or comb

• Non-perishable food items

• Lotion and hand sanitizer

Bags of Love may be dropped off between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. next week — Monday, Feb. 8-Thursday, Feb. 12 — at the Union County Chamber of Commerce, located at 135 West Main Street, Union, or The Union Times, located at 100 Times Blvd., Union.
