UNION COUNTY — The Union County High School cheerleaders are asking the community to “Glow Hard or Glow Home!”
The Union County cheerleaders have promised a “glowtastic” experience as they will hold their “Glow Hard or Glow Home” Run/Walk/Roll 5K fundraiser this Friday, June 19, at Timken Sports Complex.
The event will feature a 5K “glow run” set to begin at 8:30 p.m., and participants are encouraged to wear outfits that already glow in the dark or under a black light. There will be black light sections set up along the track throughout the race, and there will be stations in which runners will have powder and water thrown on them, which will glow under a black light.
“By the end of the race, we want everyone to be glowing,” said UCHS Cheer Coach Jana Crocker Moore, who said the race will be color run that can be held at night.
Even though the 5K race begins at 8:30 p.m., the festivities of the evening are scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m. with vendor sales and registration for a cornhole tournament to be held at 6 p.m. Registration for the cornhole tournament costs $20 per team, and the prize is a set of custom UCHS Yellow Jackets cornhole boards.
The event will also feature a photo booth (complete with black light and a back drop), a raffle and a Glowfit contest. The schedule is as follows:
— Vendor sales begin
— Cornhole tournament registration
— Cornhole tournament
— Photo booth
— Late registration for 5K
— Raffle drawing
— Glowfit contest
— “Glow Hard or Glow Home” 5K begins!
Moore said the cheerleaders are raising funds to participate in their annual UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) camp as well as clothes throughout the year such as t-shirts for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, bows and other costs for the students. There will also be old cheer uniforms on sale at the event.
