Foster featured in concert

SPARTANBURG — Meredith McKissick Foster will be featured in concert at The Eleventh Annual Scholarship Benefit, sponsored by the Spartanburg Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

Meredith, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Michael Foster, is currently a senior honors student at Union County High School and plans to attend Presbyterian College and major in Pharmacy and minor in Vocal Performance.

Her formal musical training began in 2006, at The Lawson Academy of Performing Arts, Converse College. She has studied under three master instructors: Dr. Lisa Sain Odom, Jessica Crim May and Dr. Cathy F. Siarras. Her studies include musical theatre with a heavy concentration in classical performance, under Dr. Siarras.

Meredith is very involved in many high school programs and activities, including: The Student Government Association, National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America and INTERACT (Junior Rotarian). She has participated in Gifted and Talented Music and is currently a member of Gifted and Talented Drama. In the 2014-2015 school session, Meredith served on the Arthur State Bank Junior Board of Directors.

During this past summer, Meredith attended Converse College’s Leadership Conference 2015 which focused on community service and self-empowerment.

Over the years, Meredith has received several honors related to her musical talent. In 2013, she was a regional finalist for the National Association of Teachers of Singers. Selected as a top scholarship winner, Meredith participates in The Shining Stars Honors Performance, held each year in February, at Converse College. She has also participated in the Miss Spartanburg Scholarship Pageant and was named most talented in 2014.

Recently, Meredith was nominated to perform in the Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in February 2016.

The Scholarship Benefit Concert will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, at District Three Performing Arts Center, Broome High School, 381 Cherry Hill Road, Spartanburg.
