UNION — The Sims Middle School 7th grade football team was defeated by Florence Chapel on Wednesday.
The 7th grade Sims Tigers fell to Florence Chapel in a final score of 32-18.
Sims QB Willie Jeter threw a pass to Tremaine Epps on the first play, taking the ball a total of 80 yards for a touchdown. That was the only score for the Tigers in the first half.
The Tigers were down 16-6 at the half, and then 24-6 to start the 4th quarter.
In the 4th quarter, the Tigers’ Tarik Briggs ran the ball 37 yards for a touchdown, and Jeter connected with Briggs on a 28-yard touchdown pass.
“I was not real pleased with the lackadaisical effort we showed during the game,” said Sims Coach Mitchell Moss. “We played with little emotion. We didn’t finish as strong as we would have liked to, but we have to look at the big picture. Wins matter, but did we make them better football players and better young men?”
Moss said there are two goals that are set to accomplish each year — winning the championship and making a lasting impact.
“We were unable to achieve the first goal, but I hope the players will remember their 7th grade year as Tiger football players and something that will impact their lives. We have big goals for these guys next year as they become 8th graders,” Moss said.
The 7th grade Tigers finished the season with a record of 2-6.
