UNION — For more than four decades the clients of Keenan’s Touch of Class have been able to get their hair done and their makeup done and now they can also get their nails and toenails done.

Owner Rose Keenan announced this seek that her beauty salon, which she began in her basement in 1970 and has been located at 214 N. Pinckney St., Union since 1988, is now offering clients the opportunity get manicures and pedicures in addition to having their hair and makeup done. She said the staff of Keenan’s Touch of Class now includes “Nail Technician” Tomaria Gossett.

“We already offer styling services and now we’re adding nails,” Keenan said Tuesday morning. “Nails are now a major part of the beauty salon services and we’re bringing in nails, we’re going to be doing nails now.”

Gossett, who holds a Cosmetology degree from the Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology in Spartanburg, is a Union County High School graduate who studied cosmetology when she was in high school but whose interest and involvement in the field actually began when she was a child.

“I actually started fixing hair at the age of seven,” Gossett said Tuesday morning. “So when I graduated from high school I went into cosmetology.”

Before she could finish her studies, however, Gossett said she had to leave cosmetology school for a while. She decided to return to school, however, this time committed to learning all aspects of the field. When she graduated with her degree, Gossett was able to do not only nails, but other services, and will be providing them at Keenan’s.

“When I came back I decided to do everything, hair, nails and airbrush makeup,” Gossett said. “Here (at Keenan’s) I’ll be able to do everything. I’ll be doing nails, hair, and makeup.”

Gossett’s hiring doubles the size of the staff of Keenan’s which also includes hairstylist Mona Rice.

In celebration of the addition of nail services, Keenan’s is offering a special for nail services. Keenan said that a “full set” nail service will cost $20 and a full set nail service and pedicure will cost $40. On Tuesdays there will be a 10 percent discount for seniors.

Keenan’s services are usually provided by appointment, but Gossett said walk-ins looking to get their nails done will also be served.

Gossett added that while it usually takes as much as 90 minutes to do a full set nail service, she is able to complete it within 45 minutes.

In addition to the discount on nail services and pedicures, Keenan said the addition of nail services will also be celebrated with an open house at the salon this Sunday from noon-3:30 p.m. Keenan said the public will be able to come in and see the salon which has undergone a number of changes and meet the staff. She said refreshments will be served during the open house.
