Lady Jackets defeat Broome

UNION COUNTY — The Union County Yellow Jackets girls tennis shut out Broome 7-0 on Tuesday.

Union County’s win improved the team’s record to 8-1, and they are undefeated in region play.

Coach Kelly Jenkins said the team displayed great effort.

“Everybody stepped up tonight when I challenged them to push themselves to a better result against a good team in Broome,” Jenkins said Tuesday. “We’re not complacent though. We know we have a tough road ahead of us to get to our goal of a region championship.”

Tuesday’s results were as follows:


• Rebecca Lee won 6-1, 6-6 over Jaylin Dillard

• Alexa Nance won 6-1, 6-1 over Brooke Billings

• Reid Bailey won 6-1, 6-2 over Alli Gibson

• Kristin Kicidis won 6-2, 6-3 over Lilyann Kanipe

• Rachel Gallman won 6-1, 6-2 over Kennedy Carter


• Lee and Nance won 8-1 over Billings and Dillard

• Abby Kingsmore and Kailee Stepp won 6-1, 6-3 over Libby and Lopez

Union County was 4-0 in JV matches as well. Those results were as follows:

• Caroline Gallman won 8-2

• Anna Gregory won 8-6

• Julia Bailey won 8-0

• Mary Michael Belue and Anna Harris won their doubles match 8-0

The Yellow Jackets are tied with Clinton for the region lead, and the two teams will face off on Monday and Tuesday.
