UNION COUNTY — USC Union has added a new team on campus. However, this team is quite different and unique compared to the other traditional sport teams at Union.

Starting in the fall semester of 2018, USC Union’s eSports Club will play in their first official, collegiate season. The club will build a team of players to compete against other colleges and universities in the National Association of Collegiate eSports (NAC).

According to the Pew Internet Project, approximately 70 percent of college students play video or computer games in the United States. USC Union is offering an opportunity for students to play in a competitive gaming environment. Being on the eSports team will allow students to showcase their gaming skills at the next level. Students will also have the opportunity to meet and make friends with other gamers.

USC Union has provided the eSports Club with top of the line gaming equipment. Each desktop has a Gamer Storm computer and a Mazer brand keyboard and headset. The set is complete with a high-definition computer monitor, an E-Blue desk and an E-blue Cobra gaming chair.

The eSports Club will play in one season each semester. The players will compete in various amounts of team games such as League of Legends (5 players), Hearthstone (3 players), Overwatch (6 players), CS: GO (5 players), Rocket League (3 players), and Paladins (6 players). In the NAC tournaments, eSport teams can win prizes ranging from scholarships to newer, high tech gaming gear.

“The team is a great addition to the campus,” says eSports Coordinator Jeremy Black. “The club will appeal to a wide range of students who are seeking campus-based activities and organizations.”

To join the eSports Club, players must have scored a minimum of 18 on the ACT or 860 on the SAT. Each student is required to maintain a 2.0 GPA and be registered in 12 credit hour courses or more.

USC Union is actively looking for players to join the eSports Club. If interested please contact the eSports coordinator, Jeremy Black at [email protected]
