BLUFFTON — The Union County 12u Ponytails Division Dixie Girls Softball Team stood undefeated in the 12u Ponytails All Star Tournament as of Tuesday morning.

Union County Dixie Girls Softball League Secretary Kristi Garner said that in their first three games of the tournament, the Ponytails handily defeated the Andrews, Kershaw, Florence teams, bringing them that much closer to winning the State Championship.

In their game against Andrews, the Ponytails won 20-3 with different pitchers pitching in each of the four innings played. Ponytails Janiyah Glenn, Laken Lewis, Avery Lewis, Nyla Smith, Destiny Lee, Abby Benfield, and Emma Brown had multiple hits at bat. Glenn lead the Ponytails with four hits in four at bat.

In their game against Kershaw, the Ponytails won 16-5 with Ponytail Destiny Lee pitching the entire game allowing only five hits, striking out four, and walking one. Ponytails Avery Lewis, Janiyah Glenn, and Emma Brown had multiple hits at bat.

In their game against Florence, the Ponytails won 11-1 with Ponytail Abby Benfield pitching the entire game allowing only two hits and one run over four innings, striking out four, and walking two. Ponytail Brianna Millwood won the game with a two-run walk-off in the park home run ending the game after four innings.

If they win the State Championship, Garner said the Ponytails will represent South Carolina in the 12u Ponytails World Series in Alexandria, Louisiana later this month and possibly bring the World Championship home to Union County. She said the team was scheduled to play again Tuesday and, if they win, play one or possibly two more games on Wednesday (today).
