Prayer for Wednesday

Charles Warner | The Union Times Today is the 242nd anniversary of the birth of the United States of America, a nation that, from its very beginning, has acknowledged that its blessings, especially the blessing of freedom, comes from God. So it is more than appropriate that America’s birthday should be celebrated by its churches as well as its other institutions and its citizens. It is even more appropriate that, in the midst of celebrating our nation’s birth, Americans should pause and give thanks to God for all the blessings He has bestowed on America and do so not just on the 4th of July, but every day.

Read 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

[Remember] the words of the Lord Jesus, … “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

— Acts 20:35 (NRSV)

PRAYER: Generous God, thank you for the privilege of sharing your abundant gifts with others. Though we cannot match your generosity, help us to develop a lifestyle of cheerful giving. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: For whom will I do a favor in God’s name today?
