Ponytails in State Championship

UNION COUNTY — The District Five Dixie Girls tournament was held this past weekend at the Timken Sports Complex in Union. Four different age groups played for the right to advance to their respective Dixie State Championship Tournaments.

In the 6u SweeTees Division, Boiling Springs won the district and Union County finished runner-up.

In the 8u Darlings Division, Byrnes earned the right to play for the state title.

In the 10u Angels Division, Byrnes swept through the tournament defeating Union County in the championship game.

In the oldest division in the tournament, the 12u Ponytails, Union County won the district title defeating Byrnes in the title game.

The Union County Ponytails will advance to the State Championship Tournament which will begin July 6 in Bluffton, South Carolina.

Several fundraisers are currently underway to help offset the costs associated with travel and playing in the tournament.

Dixie Youth

The Union County Dixie Youth Coach Pitch team that qualified for the Dixie Youth State Tournament will be in action this weekend in West Columbia looking to win the state title. The Coach Pitch Team finished second in the district tournament two weeks ago in Lancaster.

Adorian Bishop

Adorian Bishop from Union was named MVP of the tournament in Lancaster. Bishop played first base for the Union County team and was instrumental in the team’s success and helping them advance to the State Tournament.

Upcoming Games

Union County Coach Pitch Team will open up State Tournament Play on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Midland Sports Complex in West Columbia against the host team Midland.

The AA Machine Pitch Team started district play this past weekend and lost 8-0 to Lancaster and will face elimination in their next game which has been postponed a couple of times by bad weather.

The AAA Minors 9&10 year olds will begin district play this weekend in Gaffney.
