SANTUC — Racing fans will get to enjoy some great racing action this weekend with the Grand Reopening of the Union County Dragway.
The Grand Reopening occurs this Friday beginning with what a flyer advertising the event describes as ”three big days of racing!”
Friday Night Testing
The action gets under way Friday with “Friday Night Testing.” Gates will open at 5 p.m. and testing will be from 7 p.m.-midnight. Admission is $10; Test C/D, B/R is $20; children 12 and under are admitted free.
Saturday Points Race 1
The action continues Saturday with “Saturday Points Race 1.” Gates will open at 11 a.m. with qualifying at 1 p.m. and eliminations at approximately 5 p.m. Admission is $10 with children 12 and under admitted free.
Sunday Points Race 2
The weekend of racing action concludes on Sunday with “Sunday Points Race 2.” Gates will open at 10 a.m. with qualifying at noon and eliminations at approximately 2 p.m. Admission is $10 with children 12 and under admitted free.
The weekend will feature races in the Top Eliminator, Modified (No Box), Junior Dragster, and Street Legal.
Winners will receive prizes ranging from $1,000 in the Top Eliminator category to $500 in the Modified (No Box) category, and $250 in the Junior Dragster category.
The flyer states that there will be a Top Eliminator bonus of $1,500 to win if there are 70 cars entered or a bonus of $1,200 to win if there are 50 cars; a Modified bonus of $750 to win if there are 40 cars entered; a Junior bonus of $300 and $25 1/4’s to win if there are 25 cars entered.
In addition, the flyer states that “racers will use their best 5 of 6 finishes to determine a points championship.” It also states that “Best 20 in Top, best 10 in Mod, best 1 in Street will represent Union at the IHRA finals.”
