UNION COUNTY — It has been said that mighty oaks from little acorns grow and that was certainly the case with some small fundraisers held by the Junior Civitan Club which raised over $600 the club donated to four local charities.

In a statement released this week, the Union County High School Junior Civitan Club announced that it had held “several small fundraisers this year and were happy to give some of the proceeds to local charities.”

Those fundraisers involved selling baked good and drinks at Union County High School during lunch.

The press release states that the Union Civitan Club “matched our donations.”

The funds donated by the Junior Civitan Club totaled $625 and the match from the Civitan Club totaled $625.

The following groups received donations from the Junior Civitan Club with some of those donations matched by the Civitan Club:

• Union Cancer Services — $100 from the Junior Civitan Club and $100 from the Civitan Club for a total donation of $200.

The donations were presented Tuesday morning at UCHS by members of the Junior Civitan Club and the Civitan Club to representatives of the organizations receiving the funds. Accepting on behalf of their organizations were Ashley Jolly (Union County Career and Technology Center Sports Medicine Program), Lisa Hartley (Union Pregnancy Center), Chelsie Kelly (Union County High School Special Ed Department), and Lou Stackhouse (Union Cancer Services).

The press release states that the Junior Civitan Club’s charitable activities also included partnering with the UCHS Interact Club to sell pizza and drinks to raise funds to help a fellow student whose house burned.

The Junior Civitan Club has 60 members and meets twice a month. It is currently planning for next year’s activities, projects, and fundraisers.
