UNION COUNTY — The honors and awards continue to roll in for members of the State Champion Union County High School softball team. This time it is another player of the year award.
Union County High School Junior Pitcher Bailey Betenbaugh was named 4A State Player of the Year by the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women’s Sports. Betenbaugh helped lead the Lady Yellow Jackets to back to back 4A state titles as a pitcher, and also with her bat. In the decisive game three of this year’s state title series, Betenbaugh hit an impressive home run to center field late in the contest, while in the pitcher’s circle she struck out ten Hartsville batters, giving up only five hits, and allowing only one earned run.
Bailey, the daughter of Donnie and Crystal Betenbaugh, was named Gatorade State Player of the Year last year for the State of South Carolina, an honor she could very well receive again this season. Bailey, a rising senior, has committed to play college softball for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.
