UNION COUNTY — The Union County Recreation Department held Stinger and Flag Football Opening Day ceremonies at Union County Stadium on Saturday.
The event included a personal testimony from Union’s own Todd Davis, who suffered an injury which put an end to his football career while he was a player at the University of South Carolina. Davis had motivational words for children and parents who were in attendance at Saturday’s event.
Union County Supervisor Frank Hart also spoke to those in attendance and wished the best to all of the Stinger and Flag football players and cheerleaders. Each team was introduced and took its place on the field. This year is the first year there is a Stinger-Minors division, which will allow seven-year-olds to play tackle football with full pads.
Each of the teams played scrimmages on Saturday, which lasted around 15 minutes each. Official scores were not kept. The teams in each division are as follows:
New Horizon Realty Jets
Dollar General Vikings
Frank Hart Allstate Steelers
Union Trophy Shop Falcons
Wade’s Employment Saints
Trans-South Wrestling Ravens
United Wood Raiders
One Main Financial Seahawks
Austin Rehab Eagles
The Bulldogs, Falcons, Raiders, Ravens, Saints and Panthers each have cheerleaders, who are directed by Twist & Shout Cheer and Dance Center, located at 409 Union Blvd., Union.
