UNION — The Union Music Club met on November 14, 2017. President Nancy Kennedy welcomed all in attendance and introduced the guest musicians for the evening’s program which celebrated the National Federation of Music Club’s Crusade for Strings.
Mr. John Kvasnicka, Orchestra Director of the Union County School District, and three talented orchestra students from Union County High School, Miss Delany Duckett, Mr. Grant Harrison, and Miss Kayleigh Spencer, performed as a quartet on violins for the club members. The quartet has a large repertoire of music ready to perform and played many wonderful pieces of music including the following: “Rondeau” by Jean-Joseph Mouret, two songs from South America, and a piece by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The high school quartet of musicians perform at many local events throughout the year.
The business portion of the meeting included the reciting of the Music Club Invocation and the Federation Collect by Gertrude Seiberling and singing of the “Federation Hymn” written by Irene Williams. Sally Summers, the club secretary presented the minutes of the October meeting for approval. Sanders Read, Treasurer, provided a report on club finances. Kathy Stepp and Susan Lawson gave an update on the plan for the Christmas meeting which includes a meal from the Inn at Merridun. Members bring a musical Christmas ornament and a Christmas song to share at the December meeting.
The Music Club concluded the meeting with the singing of the Benediction song entitled “The Gift of Song” by Lana M. Bailey and accompanied by member Tommy Bishop on the piano.
