UNION COUNTY — The Union County Board of School Trustees has a new chairman and a new vice chairman.
At its November meeting Monday evening, the board, as it is required to do so by Union County School District policy, voted to elect a chairman and a vice chairman.
On a motion from Trustee Gene “Doc” Lipsey, seconded by Trustee Manning Jeter, the board voted unanimously to elect Trustee Wanda All chairman.
As required by district policy, Superintendent Dr. William Roach served as acting board chairman until after the election of the new new chairman.
Then, on a motion from Jeter, seconded by Trustee Mark Ivey, the board voted to elect Lipsey vice chairman. Lipsey abstained from the vote while the eight other trustees voted unanimously to approve him as vice chairman.
Officers of the Union County Board of School Trustees serve for one year.
While district policy requires elections of officers to be held the second Monday in November, the board voted this week to hold it at Monday’s meeting, the fourth of the Monday of this month. This was because the board is now meeting only one time each month and this meeting fell on the fourth Monday of this month.
The board is currently in the process of revising district policy, including the policy regarding the election of officers. The revision to the policy governing the election of officers will be designed to reflect the fact that the board now only meets once a month.
