UNION — The Union Music Club enjoyed a sacred music program presented by the club members at the October 10, 2017 meeting at the Union County Museum. Club Vice President, Barbara Ramsey opened the meeting, leading the group in the Music Club Invocation, the Federation Collect and the Federation Hymn accompanied by Kathleen Read on the piano.
Program Chair Kathleen Read started off the program on scared music by presenting the history of the Hymn of the Month entitled “I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord,” words by Timothy Dwight and composed by Aaron Williams. Tommy Bishop accompanied on the piano as the members sang this hymn.
Music Club members each presented a piece of sacred music, sharing its history and performing.
Jeannine Elliott presented the history of the hymn entitled “His Eye Is on the Sparrow” and accompanied the group on the piano as they sang.
The hymn entitled “On Eagles Wings” was presented by Tommy Bishop who shared the song history and the scripture verses, and performed an arrangement on the piano.
Kathy Stepp sang “In the Garden” along with providing the history of the hymn with Tommy Bishop accompanying.
“Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” was chosen by Sally Summers, who sang and shared the history of the hymn.
Susan Lawson performed a piano arrangement of the hymn entitled “Savior, like a Shepherd, Lead Us,” presented the history, and recited the lyrics.
“It Is Well With My Soul” was selected by Linda Goings who performed a piano arrangement along with the hymn history.
Barbara Ramsey presented the history of “Since Jesus Came into My Heart” and played the hymn on the piano.
To conclude the sacred music program, Kathleen Read and Tommy Bishop performed a piano duet entitled “Simple Gifts.”
Host and hostess for refreshments at the meeting were Tommy Bishop and Sally Summers.
The upcoming November meeting program features Orchestra students from Union County High School, led by Mr. John Kvasnicka, the orchestra director. The group performs using various String instruments such as violins and violas. The meeting will be held at the Union County Museum on Tuesday, November 14 at 7 p. m.
