UNION — The City of Union is doing its part to help make sure that children of needy families in Union County get toys for Christmas.
In its October meeting Tuesday evening, Union City Council voted unanimously to authorize the city to help sponsor WBCU’s “Truck Full of Toys for Union County Girls and Boys” toy drive. As it did last year, the city, as a sponsor, will contribute $900 to this year’s effort.
The toy drive, which WBCU began more than 20 years ago, involves the collection by the radio station of donations of new, unwrapped toys and/or monetary donations with which to purchase toys. The toys collected are distributed through the Salvation Army with all the toys going to children in Union County.
WBCU President and CEO Chris Woodson said that donations can be turned in at WBCU, located at 210 East Main Street, Union, as well as at Arthur State Bank, Union Pennzoil Kwik Lube, and the City of Union Municipal Building. He said that all donations should be turned in by Dec. 12.
Persons wanting more information about donating toys and/or money to the toy drive and local businesses interested in serving as collection points for the donations should call WBCU at 864-427-2411.
