UNION — The Sims Middle School Girls Volleyball Team lost Wednesday’s match against Dawkins 3-0. The scores were 25-18 ;25-19; and 26-24.
In a statement released Wednesday evening, Coach Tracy Duncan said that “in the first game, we did really well with serving, passing and hitting. Kayla Sinclair and Jessica Dawkins had served well. In game two, the girls who subbed in fought really hard, but could not pull off the win. Nina Newton had some really nice serves, and passes. Kynderia Jeter also served well. In game three, we fought to the end with being ahead, but falling to a tie and then losing the point to side out.”
Looking back over the season, Duncan said that “overall, these girls have played with soul and heart all year long, and tonight showed it. I have seen improvement from everyone!! We are not the same team that we were at the beginning of the season. Girls are blocking setting, digging, tipping and working together. I have been so proud of them and their team work. Despite losing many eighth grade players, I have some returners that are doing well.”
Duncan said that the Lady Tigers play Saturday (today) in the Peach Tree Conference Tournament, but game time has yet to be determined. She said she is looking forward to the tournament and expressed confidence in the team and what it can achieve, both on Saturday and beyond.
“This team never fails to amaze me and never gives up, with a mind set that they can win,” Duncan said. “As I always say, our record does not show the team we have!! I look forward to Saturday, and look for these girls to do big things in the future with the high school.”
Duncan also thanked those who have supported the team this season.
“I would like to thank you all for reporting for us, and thank my fans, parents, line judges, score keeper, (and) clock keeper,” Duncan said. “Everyone has been great!!!”
Duncan added that ”we hope to bring back some wins from Saturday!!”
