UNION — The Sims Middle School Girls Volleyball Team lost Wednesday 3-0 in a match against D.R. Hill Middle School. The score was 25-16, 25-16, and 25-11.
In a statement released Thursday, Coach Tracy Duncan said that in the first game, Sims was up by five points, but had some side outs and lost serves. Duncah said that the the referee then started making what she described as “some strange calls, for carrying and lifting,” that she did not agree with. She said these calls had a negative impact on the Lady Tigers.
“After that, the girls got down and could not get back up,” Duncan said. “They got really discouraged, and really frustrated. The calls that were made were great passes, sets and hits. He kept calling my setter on ridiculous calls.”
The team’s performance continued to suffer in the second game despite some strong performances by individual players.
“In the second game, we just could not pull it out despite some power serves by Abby Gregory,” Duncan said. “Taylor Austin came in and make some really nice plays as well as Cortney Hicks.“
Even though it also ended in the team’s defeat, the third game would also see some strong performances by individual Lady Tigers.
“In game three, Jessica Dawkins had some really good serves and is doing a great job, as well as Mukiyah Garrett Carson who had a drive,” Duncan said. “Nina Newton had a few serves in, and Rachel Duncan and Rebecca Shugart both had a kill.“
Duncan added that “this team has some great skills, and work really well together. You just never know how the scoring is going to go in rally scoring.”
Next week will be busy one for the Lady Tigers who will host Fairforest on Monday and Duncan said “we will be wearing for our ‘Pink Out’ game.” Duncan said that the Lady Tigers will be at home Wednesday for 8th grade recognition. She said that on Saturday the Lady Tigers will play in the Peachtree Conference Tournament with Gable hosting at Dorman High School with game time to be announced.
The Sims Middle School Girls Volleyball Team fell 3-0 on Wednesday against DR Hill. The Lady Tigers will next play Monday at home against Fairforest. Monday’s game will be the team’s "Pink Out" game and so the Lady Tigers will be wearing pink.
