UNION — The Sims Middle School Girls Volleyball Team lost Monday’s match to Rainbow Lake 3-0.
In a statement released Tuesday, Coach Tracy Duncan said that “the first game we held it with them, but did not pull off the win. Serving as a team wasn’t there, and miscommunication hurt. The 1st score was 25-11. In game two, the score was 25-14. Annesley Phillips played well, as well as Autumn Wilson, and Nina Newton, who served well. In game three, Rachel Duncan had some nice serves, as did Kendaria Jeter. Jessica Dawkins had a kill. The score was 25-11.”
Duncan said that “this match could have been easily won, but when we needed to go ahead, we would make mental mistakes. That always hurts.”
Even with the loss, however, Duncan said that “Mukiah Carson Garrett is improving as she went in and hustled for balls. Cortney Hicks and Taylor Austin are getting playing time as setters and passers as well, and doing a great job when they need to come in.”
The Lady Tigers next game will be today at 4:30 p.m. at DR Hill. On Monday, Oct. 9, the Lady Tigers will host Fairforest and, on Wednesday, Oct. 11, will host Dawkins. On Saturday, Oct. 14, Sims will play in the Peachtree Conference Tournament.
