UNION COUNTY — Sims Middle School defeated Carver 3-1 in a volleyball match Monday afternoon.
In a statement released Tuesday, Coach Tracy Duncan said that in the first game, the Lady Tigers “started off sluggish, but came back to win the match 26-24. Lack of communication, and letting Carver control the game hurt.”
Duncan said that in the second game “subs came in and played extremely well. Zoe Hunt had a nice serve, Rachel Duncan had a nice pass, and Abby Gregory had a great serving game. Taylor Austin, Cortney Hicks and Nina Newton made some digs and hustled the entire game. This group of girls play well together, and were eager to play. They do a good job when they go in. Despite losing 25-18 the girls showed tremendous effort.“
In game three, Duncan said “starters went back in and again started playing sloppy, and sluggish, but pulled off the win 25-15. In game four, Carley Sumner shut down the team with scoring at least 15 serves and with the help of setters Jasmine Martin assisting hitters Chelsea Dunlap and Kayla Sinclair. Sumner had three aces.”
Duncan said that “this team is really looking forward to more wins, and is eager to get to the top. Sims is now 3-3 in the conference.”
The Lady Tiger hosts Gable today (Wednesday) and Duncan said “#blue4ru will be our game. The team is wearing blue to honor Ruthie Dean. We play home Monday against Rainbow Lake.“
