Residents graduate from Lander

Five Union County residents were among the 264 graduates to receive bachelor’s and master’s degrees during the ceremony. The university also announced its President’s and Dean’s lists and there was one undergraduate from Union County on each list.

GREENWOOD — This spring, Lander University conferred bachelor’s and master’s degrees upon 264 graduates during the university’s 155th commencement ceremony. Mr. Kevin Marsh, chairman and chief executive officer of SCANA Corporation, delivered the keynote address before a full house at the university’s Horne Arena.

The Class of 2017 includes graduates from local communities in the state of South Carolina, across the United States and beyond its borders. This includes the following Union County residents who received the following honors for their academic achievements and the following degrees.

President’s List

Lander University also announced that 254 undergraduates have been named to the President’s List for earning top academic achievements during the second semester of the 2016-17 school year.

To be eligible for the President’s List, undergraduates must earn a GPA of 4.0.

Chelsi Kelly of Union was among the undergraduates named to the President’s List.

Dean’s List

Lander University has announced that 369 undergraduates have been named to the Dean’s List for earning top academic achievements during the second semester of the 2016-17 school year.

To quality for the Dean’s List, undergraduates must earn a grade-point average (GPA) between 3.5-3.9.

Purity Thompson of Union was among the undergraduates named to the Dean’s List.
