UNION COUNTY — July is almost over and that means August is just around the corner and that means the new school year is about to begin.
Like previous school years, the 2017-2018 school year for the Union County School District gets under way in stages with the first stage, registration, taking place during the first two weeks of August.
At Union County High School, registration will be held Tuesday, Aug. 1 and Wednesday, Aug. 2.
On Aug. 1, 12th grade students will register from 8-11:45 a.m. and 11th grade students will register from 1-4 p.m.
On Aug. 2, 10th grade students will register from 8-11:45 a.m. and 9th grade students will register from 1-4 p.m.
Registration information for Union County High School can be found on the Union County School District website (www.union.k12.sc.us). Once you are on the site, go to the top left and select schools, go to UCHS and where it says parents you will find all high school registration information.
Elementary, Middle School
Registration for elementary and middle school students will be held Monday, Aug. 14 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. Parents will register their children at the schools — Buffalo Elementary, Foster Park Elementary, Monarch Elementary, Jonesville Elementary/Middle, and Sims Elementary/Middle — they will be attending.
If your child is being registered for school for the first time, you will need to bring the following items to registration:
• Your child’s official certificate of immunization (white card).
• Your child’s Social Security card.
• Your child’s birth certificate with state seal.
• Proof of residence (tax receipt, power bill, etc.).
(Immunizations are given by appointment only at the Union County Health Department. You may call 864-424-8004 to schedule an appointment. Copies of birth certificates may be obtained from the Spartanburg County Health Department in the Office of Vital Records for $12, Monday-Friday, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.)
If, however, your child has previously been registered for school in the Union County School District all you will need to bring at registration is proof of residence.

The first to return to the schools for the start of the new school year will be the teachers who will be back in class on Friday, Aug. 11 to begin preparing for the arrival of their students.
For most students the first day of school will be Thursday, Aug. 17 when students in the 1st through the 12th grades will be back in class.
For 5K students the first day of school will be Tuesday, Aug. 22.
For 4K students the first day of school will be Monday, Aug. 28.
