UNION — The public is being invited to “Donate For a Plate” and help sponsor children for cheer and football season.
In a statement released Monday, Natassia Rivera announced that she “will be serving hot delicious plates” of food on Friday (July 21) from 12-6 p.m. at the Recreation Center at 113 Horseshoe Circle in Union.
“I am not charging for my food,” Rivera said. “I am asking for donations that will be going towards a good cause. The money that we earn that day will sponsor some girls and boys this year in the Union County area only for Cheer and Football Season.”
Rivera said that she wants to do this so as to give those children “a chance to have the opportunity to be a part of something their parents may not be able to afford at this moment.”
Also, Rivera said she firmly believes that “it’s always better to give than receive. I decided to do this because I love to cook. I have a dream, a goal, a calling. Cooking has always been something I love to do.”
Rivera said that her belief in giving back and her desire to help children combined with her love of cooking that lead to her deciding to use her cooking skills to give back to the community and help its children.
“I decided to do this because I love to cook,” Rivera said. “I have a dream, a goal, a calling. Cooking has always been something I love to do. But in order to reach for a dream you have to have a strong team behind your, people that care.
“All children need a strong team behind them,” she said. “I want to help some children reach for the stars they see and give them a chance.”
Rivera said that by raising funds to send them to Cheer and Football Camp she feels she can help move those children closer to eventually realizing their dreams.
“Even if it takes a while at least they will be closer to it (the stars they see) than they were yesterday,” Rivera said. “There’s so many stars in the sky for everyone. Just reach for it and claim your star.”
Rivera said she knows from personal experience the joy Cheer and Football Camp can bring to children.
“I am also a cheer coach and have two daughters that cheer,” Rivera said. “I love what I do and I love to see children have fun and enjoy being children.”
Rivera said that once all the donations are in she will make out a check to the Union County Recreation Department in the amount she receives and will sponsor the children that come out on Friday.
In addition to serving up plates of food in exchange for donations, Rivera said there will be games and music for the children in attendance.
“So if you have a child that wants to cheer or play football come on out,” Rivera said. “If you want to just donate for a plate come on out.”
