American Legion Baseball tonight

UNION COUNTY — Baseball season continues this evening at the Timken Sports Complex when Union American Post 22 holds its opening season home baseball games.

The evening gets under way at 7 p.m. with a joint opening ceremony involving Post 22’s Juniors and Seniors. Following the ceremony, the Post 22 Juniors will play Inman Post 44 and the Seniors will play Spartanburg Post 28.

The first pitch will be thrown by former Legion baseball p layer Kevin Brewington and the National Anthem will be sung by Post 22’s Jantzen Childers. Assisting with player code on the field will be former Legion players and Major League draftees Joe Haney and James “Buffalo” Maness.

The Senior game will be called by Tyler Shugart who will be filling in for regular announcer Steve Ramsey. Shugart is a host of The Morning Fox Sports show in Spartanburg and does play by play and radio analysis for sporting events at Spartanburg High School and Presbyterian College.

Union American Legion Post 22 Seniors are led by Keith “Jap” Worthy who is also coach of the USC Union Bantams Baseball Team. Worthy will be assisted by Brad Freeman, Corey Robertson, and Joe Beatty.

The Post 22 Juniors are led by John Parks who will be assisted by Dennis Cooper, Ben Wages, and Jake Walton.

Donnie Vinson is Post 22’s Athletic Director.

All the post’s coaches have extensive American Legion player and/or coaching experience.

The public is urged to attend this evening’s games.
