UNION — A large number of Tigers turned out to kick off the new football season during the Union County Clemson Club’s annual Kick-Off event Tuesday evening.
In a statement released Wednesday, Young Alumni Chair Ben Loftis said that Tuesday’s Kick-Off event was a success with 163 Tigers in attendance.
The Kick-Off was held at Veterans Memorial Lodge where Loftis said the Tigers in attendance had the opportunity to meet fellow Clemson fans and enjoy a meal catered by Chik-Fil-A.
Guest speakers for the evening were Union High School Yellow Jacket and Clemson University football team defensive lineman Rashaad Jackson and “Voice of the Clemson Tigers” Don Munson.
Jackson spoke about the opportunities he enjoyed by playing at Clemson.
Munson gave fans a preview of the upcoming year, including a rundown of various players to watch.
During the course of the evening several door prizes were awared to some lucky Tigers including tickets to the Clemson-Notre Dame game and a tailgate package.
Loftis said the club’s next event will be the annual Chicken Roast, which will be held the Monday prior to Thanksgiving. He said that details about the Chicken Roast will be forthcoming.
Clemson Club events like the Kick-Off and the Chicken Roast are open only to club members. Membership in the Clemson Club costs $25 per year per family.
The goal of the Clemson Club is to award academic scholarships to deserving students who will be attending Clemson.
