UNION — In its April meeting Tuesday evening Union City Council awarded more than $500,000 in bids for financial services for the city and a Streetscape Project in the North Pinckney Street and North Gadberry Street area.
Council voted unanimously to approve a recommendation from Finance Director Walker Gallman that the contract for Financial Statement Preparation and Audit Services be awarded to McKinley, Cooper, and Cooper, LLC.
Gallman said that on March 23, 2017, the city had solicited proposals for Financial Statement Preparation and Audit Services for the 2017, 2018, and 2019 fiscal years. He said that seven firms had submitted proposals which were reviewed by city staff and Terry Fant, the city’s former auditor with the review involving assessing past performances of the submitting firms, the ability of their professional personnel, their willingness to meet time and budget requirements, their references and related experience with organizations compatible to the city.
Based on the results of that review, Gallman said the recommendation was that the contract for their services be awarded to McKinley, Cooper, and Cooper, LLC in the amount of $29,000 per year, a total of $89,000 for life of the agreement.
Council also voted unanimously to approve a recommendation from Utility Director Joe Nichols that the bid for a Streetscape Project for the North Pinckney Street and North Gadberry Street area be awarded to Spartanburg-based Capitol Construction of the Carolinas for $414,471.
The project involves enhancements to the area around the Main Street Junction Park including upgrading parking, sidewalk improvements, and adding decorative lighting.
The funds for the project will come from a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant the city received along with a small local match.
In other business, it was announced that council will meet in special session on Monday, April 24 at 5 p.m.
