Flora Fridays at PPG in July

UNION — Piedmont Physic Garden is opening its gates to the public every Friday in July. Visitors are welcome from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Enjoy a self-guided tour or join a staff member as they lead you through the medicinal garden. You can learn what these plants were once used for.

From Tuscany basil to spaghetti squash, the culinary garden is blooming. Walk along the zinnias and spot several types types of butterflies.

Whether you bring your children or stroll through the garden on your lunch break, this is a great chance to see what the garden has to offer.

The Piedmont Physic Garden is also hosting the following events in July:

• Saturday, July 14 — Piedmont Physic Garden will host a workshop, “Ancient Grains: Back in Action” from 10 a.m-12 p.m. Kerri Stewart, Registered Dietitian at Spartanburg Regional, will explain the history of ancient grains and how to add them to your way of eating. • Thursday, July 19 — Piedmont Physic Garden will host Victoria Johnson on her “American Eden” book tour from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Johnson will discuss her biographical book about David Hosack, physician to Alexander Hamilton and the botanist that founded the first American botanical garden. Piedmont Physic Garden, 301 E. South Street Union, is a local botanical garden focused on health and wellness. PPG hosts private tours, workshops, and garden parties. Founded in 2014 by the Switzer and Flynn families, the garden highlights the historical medicinal use of plants, with a specific interest in those from the Piedmont and Southern Appalachian corridor.
