William Jefferson Scales, Sr.

UNION — Mr. William Jefferson Scales, Sr., 86, husband of Mary Stepp Scale, 1132 Meansville Road, Union, SC passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mr. Scales was born in Kelton, SC, Sept. 21, 1925, a son of the late Clyde Scales and Josie Elizabeth Faucett Scales. He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Smith Lumber Company after 40-plus years of service. Mr. Scales was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in the Pacific Theater during World War II on the DDE Destroyer — US Mansfield. Mr. Scales was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was an avid farmer.

Surviving in addition to his wife Mary Stepp Scales of 61 1/2 years are a daughter, Linda Scales Pardue and husband Gene; a son, Jeff Scales and wife Eva; a sister, Mary Scales Murphy and husband Maxie, all of Union; two grandchildren, Lee Jefferson Scales and Terry Lane Scales; and a great-grandson, Caden Lane Scales.

Graveside services will be held p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb.

Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the service.

Memorials may be made to Fairforest Baptist Church, 1917 Jonesville Highway, Union, SC 29379.

The family is at the home, 1132 Meansville Road, Union.
