UNION — Mrs. Alice LeMaster Summers, wife of the late Thomas K. Summers, 113 Almac St., Union, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg, after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Summers was born in Gaffney, Jan. 5, 1922, a daughter of the late George W. LeMaster and Sallie Wilkes LeMaster. She graduated from Gaffney High School and Limestone College with further education at Winthrop College and Appalachian State University. After two years as a teacher, Mrs. Summers came to Union where she served as a teacher and librarian at Union High School for more than 30 years.

Mrs. Summers was a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church where she served in various capacities, including the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary society for outstanding women educators.

Surviving are a daughter, Sally E. Summers of Union; a sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. Fred Jeffries of Waukegan, MI; a brother-in-law, Mr. George F. Cook of Jacksonville, FL; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Elma Hecht of Orangeburg; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Summers also of Orangeburg, and a special family friend, Mrs. Waleanor Kirby of Union. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the following caregivers who were so wonderful to Mrs. Summers during her illness: Mrs. Judy Guyton, Mrs. Judy Kerr, Mrs. Donna Rice, Ms. Joyce Simmons, Ms. Angie Kelly and Mrs. Fannie Means.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. David Caughman. Burial will bein the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Donald Bonnette, Wray Bonnette, Jerry Summers, Gary Summers, Mike Nichols, Paul Barnett and Evans Crocker.

Visitation will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 201 S. Church St., Union, SC 29379 or to a charity of one’s choice.

The family will be at the home, 113 Almac St., Union.
