UNION — The Union County girls soccer team pulled out a thrilling 5-4 double-overtime win on Wednesday when it hosted Newberry in the regular season opener.

Cierra Casey scored a pair of goals during regulation and Ivey Murphy contributed an assist. Tied at 2-2, the game was sent into overtime where Casey, Brittany Moore and Micelah Solise each connected on penalty kicks and Casey Edwards came up with multiple saves to help Union County to the win.

On Thursday, the Lady Jackets dropped a 4-1 loss to Mid-Carolina. Haley Stein scored Union County’s lone goal with an assist from Hydia Green.

In Boys Action

The Union County boys soccer team dropped a heart breaker to Newberry on Wednesday, 4-3, before suffering a shutout at the hands of Mid-Carolina on Thursday, 3-0.
