Red Devils, Tigers finish in tie

UNION — The Lockhart Middle School and Sims Middle School baseball teams played to a 3-3 tie on Thursday at the Timken Sports Complex.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first when a single courtesy of Tyreze Jeter scored Jonathan Wages and the Red Devils responded in the bottom of the third inning with an Ethan Baily double that resulted in two runs.

Sims scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings reclaim the 3-2 lead before Lockhart knotted it up in the bottom of the fifth when Ryan Vaughan crossed home off a fielder’s choice.

Lockhart had runners on and was looking to break the tie but Sims’ Caleb Goodwin took the hill and ended the threat with a strikeout and a ground out.

The two-hour time limit was enforced after the inning for the 3-3 tie.

The pe-season tournament will continue over the weekend at the Timken Sports Complex with all three local middle schools (Lockhart, Sims and Jonesville) participating.

Next week, Lockhart and Sims two will meet on Tuesday at Lockhart. First pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m.Jonesville will travel to Landrum on Monday for a 5:00 p.m. game.
