David Foster is the new Boy Scoutmaster in Lockhart, and if you are between the ages of 11 and 17 you are invited to join the Boy Scouts of America. They meet on Saturdays in Lockhart at the Boy Scout Hut on Lockhart Drive from noon to 2 p.m. This Saturday, David is taking the Boy Scouts camping. If you want to join the Scouts and want to go camping Saturday, registration is at 11 a.m. If you are already registered be at the Hut at noon. David’s a great guy so I know you’ll have a great time.

Also, Cub Scouts will be lead by William Ervin, and they meet on Saturday’s from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., also at the Scout Hut. Ages for the Cubs are seven years to 10 years. This is a wonderful opportunity for your son.

The Scouts will have a fundraiser March 16. Five dollars will get you two hot dogs, a bag of chips, and slaw. This is to earn money to replace the camping equipment for the Scouts that someone broke into the Hut and stole this last year. Come and help the boys out, please.

Getting Engaged

O.K. guys! Let’s have a bachelor party before leaving Kosovo. One of the guys couldn’t wait to get home before proposing to his sweetie. Congratulations Kenny Hand — Patti Dee Gibson said “Yes.” Oh by the way, Patti said I could write this and let everyone know about it. The old saying that absence makes the heart grow fonder is soooo true.

Sewer Line Work

There’s a new crew in town to work on the new sewer line, and they are here to clean up the mess in our back alleys. They will be as good as new or better real soon. If we hadn’t had all this rain lately I think we wouldn’t have had this mess. Just bear with us for awhile longer.

March Birthdays

March 1 — Rex Walkingstick, Barbara Richardson, and Mackenzie Allen. On the second — Ann Trakas. The fourth is Duane Franklin and Barry Stepp. The fifth, Kay Wright, John Gibson, and Angie Burnett. Derek Adams is the eighth, and Wanda Stein’s on the ninth.

Wild Game Supper

Wild Game Supper, by the Lockhart First Baptist Church, is on Saturday, March 9 at 6 p.m. Find a member and get your ticket. You must have a ticket to eat, deer, bear, rabbit, coon, snake, shark, squirrel, etc. Hank Parker will be the speaker this year.

Departing Councilmen

Tuesday was our last time to have a town meeting with Lee Brannon and Glenn Stein, they did not run for office again, but will be missed. Lee is president over Union County Fire Department besides Lockhart’s and is an EMS full-time. His plate is full. Glenn is opening a produce store, from the vegetables he grows. Glenn will also have eggs from his chicken. That should keep him busy, he loves to garden.

A Good Movie

We went to see the movie “Snitch” with the Rock. It was based on a true story, and shows how far a parent will go to help their child. It was surprisingly good. We were going to see something we’d seen before, but I told Gina that since it was free why not just see something we don’t especially want to see, so what if it isn’t any good? We’re not losing any money. But it was really a good movie.

At the Social Security office, I eavesdropped on an interview between a staffer and someone who was applying for benefits.

Staffer: Married or single?

Applicant: Single.

Staffer: Previous marriages?

Applicant: Two.

Staffer: Did either of them end in death?

Applicant: No. Both times I got out alive.

Well it’s time to say goodnight, 545-6652.
