Editor’s note: Pea Ridge New columnist Hoyt Haney passed away Monday, February 4. Today we run his final column and say thank you to him for the many columns he wrote for the The Union Daily Times and The Weekly Union Grapevine over the years.
Sis always told me when I make my way into heaven that I should look for the two lines that are outside of the beautiful gates of heaven.
So when the time came, I found the lines. At the front of one line is a sign saying “Henpecked husbands” the other line “Husbands who are not henpecked.”
The line for the hen pecked was as long as the eye could see, the other line just add one husband standing in it and guess what, that was me.
Curious the henpecked husbands asked me, “How come you are in that line?”
To which I replied “Sis, my dear sweet wife, told me to stand here.”
After much laughter I realized that I was standing in the wrong line. The last Sis joke is on me I guess, she always said she would get me back for all of the jokes I put in the newspaper about her.
Later, after I made it past the gates a big tour bus drove up, the doors opened and to my surprise Sis was driving. What a glorious day it was to be with Sis once again.
Death is an experience in life that we all will participate in at some point. However, we think of its happening only to other people. We don’t like to grow old and we don’t like to die. My friends, something when wrong in the Garden (read Genesis). The Bible mentions that death is an enemy of man and God. But it also teaches that this enemy, death, will ultimately be destroyed forever; that in fact it has already been defeated at the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Death, for a Christian, brings permanent freedom from evil. It also means the believer will be like Jesus. We shall be like Christ in love. So much of self is involved in what we do here on earth; but one day, in Christ, we will have perfect love. What a glorious time it will be when we all get to heaven!

Heaven is a big place! “In my Father’s house are many mansions” — room enough for anyone and everyone who chooses to be a member of God’s family! I invite you to join me in heaven. So please feel free to invite your entire family — including in-laws and out-laws, every one of your friends, all of your neighbors, the total population of Union County, the State of South Carolina, the entire U.S.A. — everybody in the whole wide world! Heaven is a great big place where all are invited to come! Someday, I hope to see you there.
Keep On Laughing
This is the last article from me in the Pearidge News; it has been great fun for me sharing jokes and to hear that you all have enjoyed reading the Pea Ridge News. Keep on laughing, ‘Laughter is the best medicine.’ We’re always being told that, but there’s actually more to a good giggle than just raising our spirits for a couple of minutes. Children laugh up to 400 times a day; adults do it only 17 times a day. Come on adults have a little more fun, hang out with the kids! They say laughter therapy is a big deal and can improve your health in lots of different ways. So keep up with the fun and jokes.

A special thanks to so many folks from family to friends, church family, neighbors, caregivers our preacher and his family for caring for Sis and I all these years, but especially for the past seven months when we needed you the most. You will never know how much it meant to us, there are so many to name, so I won’t even try to do that but you know who you are. We love you all!

A Message From Cooter And Marie Knox
Hoyt was an amazing gentleman, loved by all; generous to everyone. Even though he and Sis did not have children they were parents and grandparents to so many. He loved animals more than anyone could ever imagine, he took care of so many strays. So many will always remember the good deeds he did for people, all of the harvest he shared with neighbors, friends and even strangers. Those who were fortunate enough to know him will be able to tell stories about him for years to come. Our community lost a great gentleman and Heaven gained another Angel. So many folks will always have a special place in their hearts for Hoyt and Sis; we all love and miss you!
